Frequently asked questions.

What is Wayfinder Practice?

Wayfinder Practice is a counseling and hypnotherapy service for English speakers living in Japan. Founded by Bobby Nelson (Certified Hypnotherapist & Counselor), it offers a safe and reflective space for emotional healing, personal growth, and mental wellness through hypnotherapy, counseling, and life coaching.

What is hypnotherapy and how does it work?

Hypnotherapy is a gentle and focused state of awareness that helps you access your subconscious mind — the part responsible for habits, emotions, and automatic responses. It’s not about losing control, it’s about regaining it. At Wayfinder, hypnosis is used to support issues such as anxiety, stress, self-esteem, confidence, and emotional healing.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes. All sessions can be conducted online via Zoom or Google Meet. This allows clients living anywhere in Japan — or overseas — to access therapy in English from the comfort of their home.

What can I expect during a session?

Each session begins with a calm conversation to understand what you’d like to work on. From there, we use techniques from hypnotherapy, counseling, and NLP to explore underlying beliefs, reduce emotional blocks, and strengthen resilience. Sessions last around 60 minutes and can be done online or in person in Kamakura.

Who do you work with?

Wayfinder supports adults from all backgrounds — especially expats, educators, creatives, and professionals living in Japan. Many clients seek support for burnout, stress, identity, cross-cultural challenges, or the desire to reconnect with themselves.

How much does it cost?

  • Counseling: ¥7,000 per hour

  • Hypnotherapy: ¥4,000 per hour

  • Life Coaching: ¥4,000 per hour

Rates can be adjusted depending on personal circumstances.
